Waistbands?

America is a fat country and waistbands are getting bigger. Oh ho ho, that was an easy post. Yeah but not really, I was referring more to the whole elastic waistband thing...because people are fat! I'm on a roll!

Ok so yeah...back on topic, elasticity. Today in econ we were talking about elasticity of demand and some other such nonsense that I actually understood. Normally I feel like some kind of idiot in that class, but moving on. Maybe I'm just slow to this realization, but I figure might as well say something.

Why the hell do people whine about gas prices so much? Well I guess I do that too, my problem isn't so much the whining, as it is the fact that people seem to think these gas companies are in the wrong for charging so much. Why wouldn't they? They have no incentive at all to lower gas prices at this point because we are still willing to buy gas.

The problem here is that it would be nigh impossible to go cold turkey on gas, the layout of cities pretty much prevents this. People have to commute to work, which in this country generally means driving from a suburb to downtown. People aren't just going to start leaving at 5am to walk or ride a bike to work. As long as it is available, people will pay for gas to drive to their job, to make money so they can provide for their families and buy more gas.

Honestly though, why would these companies lower gas prices? The incentive really isn't there. People act like they shouldn't be out to make a good profit. The entire purpose of getting of a job, or running a business is to make just as much money as possible. Do I run around declaring some guy is in the wrong because he makes more than he needs just to get by. No, but we seem to feel the need to damn these companies.

Sure this doesn't make them any less evil, as far as I can tell, the heads of Exxon wear top hats, light cigars with handfuls of one-hundred dollar bills and laugh evilly whilst saying "Gooooood, gooooood."

Yep...

Well its been quite awhile hasn't it? Over a month in fact. I know I shouldn't deprive the oh so many readers I have out there of my oh so amazing writing abilities and quick wit. (Note: My writing abilities are fairly sub par and my wit isn't all that quick). It just seemed cruel. So um yeah...I guess I should get writing.

This would be much easier if I had something to write about.

Bah, update is on the way sometime soon.

Reviewers: A Review

Oh the critic, the reviewer, whatever you want to call them. They have the best job on the entire planet Earth. I cannot even fathom having a better job than getting to critique the work of someone else. I mean, I do that anyways but I don't get paid. These people get paid for their opinions. What the hell?! Why isn't anyone paying me for my all important opinion? Oh right, I'm not important.

Here is the problem I have with all this, these people that are critics seem to be the people that couldn't make it in their chosen field. They wander aimlessly muttering bitterly about how they almost made it, then someone got the bright idea that they should talk shit about the people who did make it in said profession. They created a rating system of sorts and somehow an entire new profession was created.

Why does everyone listen to these people? "I heard such and such jackass gave this movie 0 stars." Who cares? How do you know his tastes line up with yours anyways? How is he able to make money off of movies when he isn't involved in any way shape or form in making them. All he does is complain about them because he wasn't good enough.

So basically the reviewer is given a free item (be it a game, meal, or movie) and they judge it. Then get paid. They are given free things then paid way too much money for an opinion.

I need that job.

Oh yeah, this is a review...

Reviewers: 0 out of 5 Stars.

Twilight: Awful?

What is with people's obsession with this series? I don't understand it. When did this goth kid nonsense become super popular? This is the kind of stuff those social reject kids write in their spare time in their pitch dark rooms as they type a blog about how much their life sucks and all the new cuts on their arms.

Now you may be wondering "Well then why did you read them?" I didn't! Screw that! I don't do research before making up incredibly biased opinions. I just take what I've heard and read off the back of the book. I mean, how can one read such meaningless drivel, ever? One would have to be incredibly bored and/or stranded on an island with only copies of these awful books. Then again, I would think you might want to do something more useful with them like burn them for warmth and cooking.

I have nothing against this culture of vampire loving freaks (yes I do) but when did it become mainstream? I guess after Harry Potter, anyone who could write more than a few paragraphs and knew someone that worked for a publisher decided they could write a book. Somehow this particular idiot hit the jackpot. Some idiot read the book, then told their friend about who told their friend about it. You know what, I don't think anyone has read these books at all. They all just bought copies because its the cool thing right now. Jerks.

Security

So EA has decided to have DRM on both Spore and Mass Effect. I could care less about Mass Effect but I plan on purchasing Spore. And really, I could still care less. Oh no they want to verify it when I install the game?!?! Outrageous!

I see people all over the internet just absolutely losing their shit over this. If you bought the game and have an internet connection (if you don't you probably really don't play PC games) this shouldn't be a problem. Just verify after install then go and play. Oh no?

Getting angry about this is like saying you're mad a store beefs up security after people keep shop lifting it. For some reason since its the gaming industry and it affects gamers (the whiniest people ever) its the worst thing that has happened in the history of the earth. The Holocaust? Mere spilt milk in comparison. If this ruins the game for you, you obviously didn't care for it that much in the first place.

Out of all of this I have really come to the conclusion that the people whining about this aren't the people that were going to buy Spore in the first place. Its the people that want to pirate it but still wanted to download content for it (oh yeah it verifies anytime you download content as well). Pony up the $50 and buy the game. Or hey wait a year and pay like $20.

Another thing is we should be angry at the people pirating the games for all this, not the companies for adding more security measures.

Good Luck

Ok I retract all of that, not that anybody cares. I still hate Sean Avery and the fact that the Stars signed him. Jerks.

Well then...

Well it has been about a month since my last post so I guess its time to update for the one total reader that I have. Its exam time now...oh boy. That time of year when you study and study and study then take the test and find out its over completely different material than the stuff that you spent three weeks meticulously going over. So I guess if this post is terrible (it probably will be) I can blame exams.

I don't want to rant about exams though. What I do want to talk about though is karma. It undoubtedly exists and it is one of the few things that actually makes me believe in a higher power. So many times you see some idiot (Shawn Avery for instance) being stupid and doing things that just make you think "Man what a jackass...someone needs to break his leg or something." Instead of someone having to be suspended to take Shawn Avery out, karma comes and gets him back for everyone and his spleen bursts or something like that.

Thats so beautiful. It is on the cusp of being poetic. It seems so often that for some reason or other, people do in fact get what they deserve, reap what they sow, whatever you want to say. Almost like there is some kind of justice in the world.

Oh sure there are plenty of cases that refute this, but since they don't prove my point, I like any good writer, will just ignore them and pretend they don't exist.
